if anybody could help me to find books on sign language?

Question: I realize this web site is more on the lost of hearing. But I am in the need of some help with some signs. I found this sight a couple of weeks ago. To back up a little I have no hearing loss. But have been interested in the deaf for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid all I wanted to do was learn sign language. I was finally able to do that when I graduated high school and went to collage. That was my only reason for going in to college was for the sign language. It is something the Lord laid on my heart all those years ago. I go around and do songs on cd's and do the sign language to them. I have interrupted for the deaf on occasion. I just wish I could read the signs as well as I do them. But I only know one who is deaf and she can hear some when her hearing aids turned way up. She does a lot of lip reading and not much sign language. But back to the reason I am here. I have some songs that has some words that I can't find the signs to. I have 20 or so books on sign language that belong to me. And I couldn't find them in there. I tried another web site and have had no feed back at all. But below is the words I am needing help with.

I am sure most of you have heard a song at one time or another where it talks about Jesus is the potter and we are only the clay. He makes us what He wants us to be.

Answer: I meet people who want to learn sign language. I often ask, "Why do you want to learn sign language?" Why learn sign language? So you can talk to deaf people. Why talk to deaf people? Because they use sign language. It's circular. The second reason for learning sign language? Church. School and church are the two main places hearing people get exposed to sign language. Learn sign language, and you can lecture the deaf!

Signing melody fails. Signing lyrics fails. Oh, something comes through, but not the music as written or played. A person highly skilled with both sign language and music could not watch an unknown song signed through a window and then play it, or even chant the lyrics truly.

Signed music is for hearing people to watch. So sweet. It's not for deaf. Deaf do appreciate what's going on. It's very nice. Don't think for a minute the song comes through. It's not like watching a movie, it's like watching the shadow of a movie. Do deaf people sign songs in the shower? Deaf talk to themselves with sign language, but never sing to themselves.

Now for all of you who are unhappy with what I've written, I repeat: Signed music is appreciated. And I don't claim to be a spoksman.

Hi monkey. To understand deaf you must learn to read lips.
