Question:
I was wondering if anyone can give me any advice or opinions regarding
commercial audio cassettes for learning spanish. There seem to be
several varieties on the market, including Crown's Living Language
series, Barrons and a package called "Spanish in a Box"
They all seem to cost about the same (~$30 US) and come with two
cassettes, a dictionary and phrase book.
Answer:
Don't waste your money on one or two cassettes. They don't have
enough content to be useful. Look at one of the larger programs that
have 10-15 CD's of the equivalent number of cassettes. I have used
Baron's "Mastering Spanish" $100 ISBN 0-8120-7871-3 with 11CD's.
It is very repetitive and builds on that. For example it will start
with the sentence, "He goes to town." and then work through They go to
twon, I go to town, We go to town etc. That way you learn to
conjugate the verbs as well as learning the vocabulary.
I have also found it useful to listen to the Mexican language stations
to get a feel for the speed and cadence of the language.
