Has anyone had their children in guitar lessons at this age or taught five and six year olds?

Question: Any thoughts on what is a good age to enroll a child in guitar lessons. My son will be six in December and has expressed an interest in lessons. Has anyone had their children in guitar lessons at this age or taught five and six year olds? Also, any recommendations for a particular brand of guitar for kids of this age. I presume they would be starting with nylon string.

Answer: interest, he probably is ready. You would have to be careful about the teacher, though. Not all teachers could handle a six-year-old, at least not without committing some violent act in the process. ( I think I belong in that category. ) He will most likely progress more slowly than an older child, but as long as he sticks with it, that doesn't matter. The thing I would try to guard against most is having music become a chore. Music and making music is supposed to be fun. What is the point otherwise
