Question:
As a child I was never taught Spanish by my mother or father although I am
of Spanish and Mexican descent. I'm sure they had their reasons.
As I get older, my want to learn Spanish gets greater. I do not have
anyone who I am close to that uses Spanish on a regular basis. I'm sure
once I know it I could practice with my relatives but their "main"
language is english.
So, my question is :
Would someone please post what they believe to be the best method to learn
Spanish (short of going to live in Spain or Mexico)? Be it by books,
tapes, courses at a community college or even more expensive private
companies.
It might even be nice to hear about your own learning experience, however
unconventional.
Answer:
an excellent way is start using the lingo at every opportunity:
watch spanish language tv, if you're a sportsfan, and have sap, switch to
the spanish channel and watch the game listening to el play by play.
If your parents used spanish as a "secret" language i'm willing to bet
you have an oral competency that outweights your performance (speaking)
competency. If you, once you start forcing your mouth to form itself
around those words and expressions you learned as a child you'll find
your spanish language performance growing
