Question:
I'm a foreign student who has been studying Computer Science in N.Y.
To overcome the language barrier, I know I have to speak in English
everyday.
But actually it's not easy to talk with a native speaker in a campus
regularly
because I have to spend much time on coming up with my courses and also have
no
money to learn the spoken English from a native speaker.
So I decided to read the Dear Abby column and memorize it day in day out.
Here is the question.
The Dear Abby column is worth learning the spoken English?
Answer:
Reading anything that interests you is good, in my opinion. The English
in the Dear Abby column is certainly standard American English. You can
also learn a lot about daily life and values in the USA. Just remember
that the advice Abby gives is sometimes not good. You should decide for
yourself whether you like her advice or not.
