My girlfriend's birthday is coming up, and she's been saying for a while how
much she'd really love to learn sign language. I thought I'd buy her
lessons, or a course, or an instruction dvd, or whatever.
Anybody here know any sign language, and/or know a good way to learn it for
someone who already works full time?
Answer:
You want to look for materials on American Sign Language (or ASL).
Depending on where you live, the local Adult Ed might have evening
classes. If you get her self-study materials, there are CD-ROM (perhaps
even DVD-ROM) sets available. I have colleagues who research the
structure of ASL; if you want, I can ask on Monday if there's anything
particular they would recommend (or recommend avoiding!).
