How you usually learn english words?

Question: How you usually learn english words and which minimum arsenal of language constructions it is possible to use without loss of sence?

I'll try to explain... Several years ago I started to learn english. I was learning english intensively for year or two. Since that time I've forgotten a lot of words and grammar constructions.

But now I have to read a lot in english. And I noticed that I am not able to remember new words I meet in technical texts. But special learning of words will take time - it is undesirable... So, how you remember new words?

Also I want to hear your opinion about the minimum arsenal of grammar material which will make possible to discuss with foreign people without lost of sence. I decided to ask you about this because of very limited fund of time to dedicate to grammar learning...

Answer: Twelve years ago, while I was learning in school, I studied a lot of english words. I wrote words at cards. On face side of card were written english word and transcription, on back side was written russian translation.

You have to sort out pack of cards and have to speak each word loudly.

I could remember about one hundred new words for two hours.
