Question:
Anyone have a recomendation for a audio CD player app
that runs on Windows XP and allows a user to pause, reset
the playback position to X seconds into the track, and resume
playing from that point? I need to be able to do this when
studying Japanese using the CDs that come with textbooks.
Microsoft's CDplayer was quite adaquate for this in Windows
2000. But I just upgraded my laptop to Windows XP in
preparation for a trip to Japan and was unhappy to find
that Microsoft replaced CDplayer with Media Player which
sucks at doing this. Media Player seems to wait for the CD
to spin up before it starts playing, but it starts the timer
immediately. After it starts playing the timer seems to pause
while the audio catches up. This all makes the reported times
completely bogus for a number of seconds after the playback
starts and making them useless for repositioning playback to
the same point. But Microsoft has only made 10
versions of Media Player so far, so I guess they are still just
working out the normal bugs
FWIW, I tried Media Player 9 and 10. I also copied W2K's
CDplayer to XP, and it runs fine except that the buttons
that change the position in the track (the feature I need),
no longer work. :-(
I have been googleing for alternative CD player apps but
there are a lot out there and I don't have time to evaluate
them all. I just want something basic and simple. Perhaps
others have found one that is particularly suited for use
when learning language?.
Answer:
go to the device manager,
go to your CD-/DVD drive, and under "Properties" un-check the "Enable
digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device".
this should help.
