Question:
After I read the article written by Mr. Dinkin, I feel that he is "looking down" on the Asians and is also making
fun of their use of language.
So what if Chinese say "open the light"? Does it matter? Give me a break,
okay!!! Try to learn Chinese and you will find that its much harder (in
fact, the hardest) language to learn than any other languages.
So what if they don't say it correctly. As long as you understand,
then.....okay, english professor.
English was not my first langauge, but I acquired (although not very good)
in three years. Try to learn Chinese in three years and you'll learn
basically "NOTHING." There are over millions of words (vocab) in Chinese
and don't even mentioning of combine them into sentences. For an average
Chinese, it takes 55 years to learn all the words.
If i interprete your meaning wrong, then please let me apologize. But if I
am not, SHAME ON YOU!!!! You should feel sorry for your ignorance.
Answer:
I believe you are completely mistaken in your interpretation of Mr. Dinkin's
remarks. He was simply observing that this usage was not unknown in American
English, although he himself did not use it. That was the sole import of
what he said, and it happens to be a subject that has been discussed here a
number of times without any reference whatsoever to Asians or Asian
languages.
