Question:
I speak fluent English and looking for some one that speaks fluent German
that wants to learn English. I'd like to exchange emails in German and
English, which will help me learn German and the other person learn English.
Answer:
I am *not* a native English speaker, and some things in the above strike
me as odd. Since I am too trying to learn English, could some one
clarify?
Should it not be "I speak fluent English and _am_ looking for..." in the
first sentence? I have seen this kind of omitting of the am, is etc
before, and heard it in speech, but it still bothers me. Is it only used
in speech or is it acceptable in formal writing too?
In the last sentence: when does one say "learn to do something" and when
"learn do something"? Is one right and the other wrong? If not, is there
a difference in meaning or tone or anything?
(I fear I might offend by "correcting" the original posters language.
I could not correct, I have no idea what is correct myself. I only ask
to learn. :))
