Question:
I am looking for a way to help my 3yr old son to come in touch with the
English language.
Do you know where to find some concepts of introducing kindergarten-kids in
a foreign language ? Can you recommend some learning materials e.g. CD,
songbooks etc.?
Do you know of kids software, that is as excellent as the Humongous games
regarding graphics and sound ? In Germany, there is nothing -imho- that can
be compared to the Putt-Putt, Freddie Fish and Pajama Sam series (except the
German version of the Humongous games :-)
Answer:
I have been likewise looking for good "foreign" language software for my
children (9 down to 6 months. While there are a few packages that I am looking
into further, there was a very good suggestion that I would like to pursue.
That idea is to (have the children) read beginners books in the foreign
language. (It doesn't even have to be books, it could be CD's, etc.) Remeber,
when we (ourselves) learned our mother tongue, it was "foreign" to us, yet we
learned it this same way.
The only problem is in obtaining the materials. But - and this is where we
might be able to help each other - it is easy for me to get beginners books in
English, and it is easy for you to get beginners books in German.
My children have learned to read (English) by playing/using Reader Rabbit's
Interactive Reading Journey. We also have some of the Living Books (such as
"Just Grandma and Me") and some Dr. Seuss titles ("The ABC's" and "Green Eggs
and Ham"). We have a demo of one of the Putt-Putt titles but I haven't
evaluated it myself so I can't comment on how these compare, but I do know that
my kids enjoy the ones we have. [Note: I have a 5 year-old that literally
learned to read from these materials and a 3 year-old who is following in the
footsteps of the 5 year-old.]
BTH, do you know of any good German softare (CD-ROM's) for elementary grade
[ages 5 to 10]?
