Question:
I would like to know if any of you has been (or is currently) an ESL/EFL
teacher. If you are the one I am looking for, would you please help me in
replying the following questions? Thank you in advance!
1. What are the challenges for you, as an ESL/EFL teacher when you teach
Chinese students?
2. What is the teaching style/pattern/approach you use in teaching English?
Answer:
Well, for starters there are MANY DIVERSE Chinese people in my community.
Unfortuately I only speak Mandarin and Cantonese. So that's one.
Another is the difference in levels. Usually there's only ONE ESL class
(being me as the teacher) but some of them have basic understanding of
English and some don't even know ABC.
Finally, it's the practice they have in their life. Most of them are
shameful that they can't speak English and thus never practice it. Everyone
knows language can only be really improved by practice, especially
pronounciation.
I get them to listen as much as possible to English and talk as much as
possible in English. Then encourage them to use English outside and don't
be afraid to be laugh at.
