Question:
I'm a French/Ed student. I'm very interested in ESL and I'm doing a
research project on strategies teachers use to help ESL students get a better
chance at academic success.
Would anyone care to share their ideas with me? Trends I'm seeing through my
reading are parental involvement, greater teacher cultural awareness, use of
technology... any ideas you are using would be interesting to me.
Answer:
Honest, personal involvement in the students school life is
important. Of the 70 or so students my school has graduated so far,
three have gone/will soon go to America to study further. I have tried
to take a human interest in their studies and help them where I can,
avoiding doing all the work for them.
What do you mean by academic? Here in Japan, for example, working at an
ESL school (two year intensive program), I wouldn't be able to tell yo
what academic success is.
