Question:
Just a question. Who designes smoke detectors for ESL? I can think of at
least 5 or 6 times we have gotten bad batches of ESL smokes. It had
finally gotten to the point where we just didn't put them in any more.
Sure, they would give us free replacements (after we sent the old ones
back for credit ) but, they would not pay for the labor to replace them
or the travel time to the job site.
I've had job site (A nursing home) where 1 or 2 smokes would go bad
every month. The job was on Cape Cod, homebase was New Hampshire. 3
hours travel time each way. After about 7 months we finally had to
change all the smokes on the system (about 60 smokes.)That was 6 years
ago. Not one false alarm since then. Guess how much profit we made on
that system.
Are there any other horror stories out there ??
Answer:
After several similar problems, including failure to respond to actual
smoke (lots of it), I got fed up with ESL products. Until a few years
ago, I used nothing but ESL and had excellent results. Ever since they
sold out to Sentrol, I've been replacing bad smoke detectors.
The strange thing about all this is, except for the ESL smokes, Sentrol
is an excellent company with some of the best products on the market. I
don't advertise their stuff on the Web even though I sell it. The Moose
panels are very good, other than their annoying habit of seizing the
phone line at odd times and for no apparent reason. The Sentrol magnetic
switches are some of the best in the industry. But the blasted ESL
smokes...
