Question:
Can anyone recommend computer ESL software for junior high to
high school aged learners. My friend is considering adding this
to a fairly large (3000 students) chain of language schools in
Brazil.
Answer:
I can recommend Vamos Falar Inglês! from my company, HyperGlot Software.
It's a great ESL/EFL program for speakers of Portuguese (originally
written for Continental Portuguese, but re-edited for Brazilian
Portuguese). And since the program teaches English, the only Portuguese
in the program is written, and, as I understand the differences,
Continental and Brazilian Portuguese differ mainly in pronunciation, not
in written form.
We also off the same course for people who already have a good deal of
academic English experience, but need work with speaking, pronunciation,
grammar, etc: Learn to Speak English from English.
The course (CD-ROM for either Macintosh or Windows/MPC) covers the
equivalent of 3 years of High School language study, taking the student
from an absolute beginner to a strong-intermediate level.
HyperGlot has an online catalog on the World-Wide Web, the URL is in my
.sig, and we've got demos available for anonymous ftp, the URL for *that*
is in my .sig too.
