Question:
I have no helpful suggestions that address art, economics, or any
other specific content. I have merely some questions to add to the
mix.
Who is better qualified? The content teacher teaching ESL? Or
the ESL teacher teaching content? Are people having success at
bridging gaps between content and ESL professionals? If so, how?
If not, why?
Answer:
I am qualified to teach ESL, French, Russian, Music and Social
Studies. I feel quite comfortable and confident teaching social studies
content in ESL. I have also experimented with teaching basic science
content in ESL and do NOT feel comfortable or confident (although for the
students the results can often be entertaining, so maybe that is the
trade off). We also had a social studies teacher teacher ESL and the
students really didn't like the class or the teacher
