Question: has anyone done an A Level in English Literature? if so, what books did you study? I want to do the A level before I do a Degree in English Literature

Answer: Why ? If you're a mature student (ie. over the age of 20) and you can demonstrate a good grasp of Eng. Lit., you shouldn't need an A Level - I didn't. I did a degree in English (and History) 1998-2001 as a mature student of 30, not having studied English formally since my O level at the age of 16, and I didn't feel the lack of it. In fact, I was mostly better off than the 18 and 19 year olds who had only read what they had to, and had hardly read anything purely for pleasure since they were children. My skills of analysis were no worse than theirs and I was often told, during my first year, that my essay writing skills were far superior because I had immersed myself in well written English lit of all kinds for several years prior to doing my degree. And I missed out on a First by only a few points...
