Question: I'm trying to find a good guide to English grammar that is designed for the native speaker of English. Like most of those whose first language is English, I don't really know the rules of English grammar - beyond the very basic. I need something that has practice exercises with an answer key. I need to be able to identify a "linking verb phrase", an "action verb phrase", the adjectives and adverbs - and be able to tell the difference between the two.

Answer: No. If I were, I wouldn't have said that my first language is English. That is, my native tongue, my Mother Tongue - however you want to put it. What I was trying to say was that I didn't want an English grammar that is designed for those learning English as a second language. Most of the books on English grammar out there seem to be of that type. Btw, I can't believe that on the internet of all websites you'd leave a proper noun uncapitalized.
