Question:
With large numbers of English police officers being drafted into Scotland
for G8 duties, can exercise the office of Constable in Scotland or are their
powers limited to that of ordinary citizens?
Answer:
I live in S.Scotland, and I'm far more concerned about why the damned
G8 is here at all. I wasn't asked. I don't know anyone who was
asked. And I don't know anyone who knows anyone who was asked. It's
costing us a fortune, to say nothing of civil unrest and *massive*
inconvenience, just so that G8 (who could actually meet in a phone
box) can show who's really in charge of the world, and Blair can be
told exactly how high to jump.
And at least English policemen are UK nationals. For his visit to G8,
Bush has a *huge* armed personal security presence, and an assault
ship full of US Marines at full readiness off the west coast. But
no-one's saying what their rules of engagement are, or what the legal
implications of their use might be. UK army and security chiefs are
concerned that the USA is adopting its usual arrogant 'independant
approach' to security while Bush is here - i.e. bugger British law.
