Question:
I am currently looking for a special English audio course which helps
develop the correct pronounciation for advanced students. I've seen the
add in some magazine but can't find it now.
Also my parents are looking for good intermediate/advanced audio/video
English course.
If you know the companies that produce and/or sell these products,
please, e-mail me at the address in my signature (NOTE: the address in
the header is incorrect!!!)
Answer:
Check out the Ford Language Institute, American Accent Program, 4199
Campus Drive, Suite 200, Irvine CA. 92751 (1-800-445-8043) (Around $300
for the PC and they have a Mac version too). I purchased it last month -
very good program.
For something less expensive - Joan Morley has written the classic
pronunc. texts - kind of the bible in the field...Improving Spoken English
- Text is about $12-15; tapes are $150 (11 90-min tapes). This book
covers mostly vowels and suprasegmentals. Her new book is on Consonants -
the text is also cheap to buy; but the tapes are $250. If you are looking
for videos on pronunciation - check out North American Spoken English - 6
and a half hours of video tapes (9 tapes) by Speechmasters (213) 934-6464
or (213) 930-1569. They run approx $450. I think these are some of the
better materials on the market - but they are a little pricy. Hope this
helps.
