Question:
I have been wanting to learn a second language for a while now and on my
travels i read that spanish is the easiest language to learn... and that it
is a logical language...
i find it hard to believe that any language can be logical but is it really
a relatively easy language to learn??? if it is then what method do
recommend i use when learning it???
also, if spanish is not so easy then what language would you recommend i
learn??? i am a maths/science person if that helps your decision.
Answer:
Well, Spanish is for the most part relatively easy to pronounce for an
english person... (the only sounds I have problems with are the spanish
r & rr... I speak a non-rhotic dialect of english dammit lol, and I find
it difficult, although I try hard to get them right) there isn't a
complicated case system or anything so the nouns don't present too much
of a problem, apart from remembering them (and their genders) in the
first place... the biggest difficulties in spanish is learning the verbs
(there are a lot of verb forms to get used to) and learning to make
distinctions that spanish does but english generally doesn't, like the
difference between para and por (both would normally be translated for
in english). I've been learning spanish for a over half a year now, not
a very very long time, but of the languages that I know something about,
spanish is probably the easiest. Its certainly easier than french to speak.
I'm in the middle of a maths degree by the way... and I don't think
there are any completely logical languages to be honest... latin has
some nice features from a logic point of view (I loved "ut") but since
no one speaks it anymore its not really worth learning
