Question:
Economically and expeditiously, what is the best manner to learn a foreign
langauge at home ? I heard the Pimsleur tapes are good. Any opinions ? What
is the best way to learn when you have 6 weeks ?
Answer:
Tapes which you can play in the car are best. That means they must
have both english and the other language on them. I find that tapes
where the speaker is a woman are better. Seems a woman's voice is
clearer at least to my ear. I also like tapes where the repeat the
foreign word or phrase more than once. I hate Berlitz tapes
especially when they have the long boring section on the culture or
manners of a country. I'm not familiar with Pimsleur so can't help
you there.
If you are learning French there is a very good series on the Learning
Channel. Nice to tape and rewatch.
Also try and find some comic books in the language. Asterix is good.
