Question:
I'm here to seek american people who can help me to improve my
english. I'm male, 16, brazilian. I love english language!! I have some
doubts about english expressions, about slang. I hope you can understand
this english I'm writing to you. If you wanna collaborate to my english
learning
Answer:
Do you mean those who speak in a lazy London accent (based Cockney
without rhyming slang), Scouse, Geordie, Mancunian, Brummie, Cornwall
English etc.? or that tiny minority of English people who speak RP
(hardly easy for Brazilians).
Inhabitants of England, around 48 million, account for an eighth of
native speakers of English. English spoken in Wales, Ireland and
Scotland is actually purer and closer to middle English than that
currently spoken by most Southern English people. Most varieties of
North American English are far more consistent and easier to learn than
the South Eastern English.
Indeed there are more speakers of "Brasileiro" than of BBC English.
Maybe speakers of the English language should vote to change the name of
the tongue (Anglosaxon, Atlantic, Worldish - any other suggestions?) so
little Englanders don't think everyone wants to copy their linguistic
habits.
